The original Chinese edition of this book was published in 2022. By then, Macao had been reunited with the Motherland for over two decades. The practice of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle had begun to bear fruit, and historical and cultural research was steadily flourishing. In the years since, our reflections on Macao have increasingly coalesced into a single question: What makes Macao as she is?

該書中文原著於二〇二二年出版。彼時澳門回歸祖國逾二十年，“一國兩制”實踐初結碩果，歷史文化研究亦漸入佳境。幾年過去，我們對澳門的思考愈發凝練為一個問題：何以澳門？為何這座南海之濱的小城，能夠在近五個世紀的風雲變幻中，始終擔當東西方相遇、對話、碰撞與交流的先行者？為何它既能深植中華文化沃土，又能從容擁抱世界，最終沉澱出一種既屬於中國、又屬於人類的文明景觀？隨着研究的深入與時代的推移，這個問題的答案變得更加豐滿，也更加迫切地需要與世界分享。

The Macao Foundation (FM) has released the English- and Portuguese-language versions of a Chinese-language book about Macau’s history and culture, with the aim of making it more widely accessible to non-Chinese readers, according to a statement by the public foundation yesterday.
